There is a rumour circulating with reference to a recent function at the House of Lords and in relation to the DPF's Rule 30 procedures

    So What is Happening

In relation to the Function at the House of Lords, it was in order to mark the retirement of the previous National Treasurer. The General Secretary had raised the idea for this function over eighteen months before and with the knowledge of the NEC and the Area JBB Secretaries. If there were an issue it would be reasonable to have expected it to be brought to the attention of the NEC prior to the function, as there was plenty of time to do so and not after any individual had attended. I will always act in accordance and agreement with the committees of the DPF, as I have in this case.

    DPF Position

In relation to the issue in respect of Human Rights, the DPF is fully committed to ensuring that member's rights are always paramount. I am unable to comment on any specific cases however the suspension of timescales is in accordance with Rule 30(d) of the Defence Police Federation Rules and Constitution and the protocols set out by the NEC. The first issue to be examined at any hearing in such a case would be the suspension of the timescales and as such if it is not justified it is within the authority of the hearing to postpone to a more suitable date. In either case the individual at such a hearing always has the right of appeal to Annual Conference if they are dissatisfied with the outcome of the hearing, provided they have in the meantime respected the decision of the NEC as required by Rule 30(c).

    Eamon Keating
    National Chairman
