Rumour - MDP / MGS FEASABILITY STUDY (May – October 2006)

A rumour is circulating that MDP and MGS are to integrate as one united organisation.

    So What is Happening

A study has been set up at the behest of the Divisional Commander (Scotland) to look at the feasibility of closer ties within Scotland Division between each organisation re ‘common ground’ ie where would integration be an advantage or drawback? The purpose is not to create one generic organisation but for each to retain it’s own identity whilst identifying areas of (possible) commonality eg shift patterns, equipment purchase etc.

The Project Leader is Duncan Munro, Business Manager (S) assisted- on an ad hoc basis- by an official representative from both MDP and MGS. An invitation has been extended to both the Trade Unions (TGWU and PCS) and the Police Federation for their input. This will enable the Staff Side to monitor the direction of the study through its’ 6 month progression.

Separate (but similar) questionnaires have been issued to both organisations and the returns will form part of the statistical analysis when considering the empirical evidence of the completed study.

    DPF Position

At our request Mr Munro will also collate information of membership concern from local DPF representatives as he visits each station where co-location exists.

The final product will be submitted to the AMB for their consideration and any further consultation with the DPF at National level.

At this time the study remains merely that, it is not a management proposal.
