Obituary - Bill Galway

Retired member Bill Gallwey died on 16th December 2008 as a result of complications arising from Parkinson Disease. Bill retired in the rank of Sergeant in 1984 from RNAD Trecwn, Pembrokeshire. Bill was born in 1919 and grew up on the family farm in County Cork. He joined the Navy in 1938 initially in Stores then during the War served on the Arctic Convoys, in North Africa and Italy. Bill left the Navy after 22 years service having attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Bill joined the Admiralty Constabulary in 1960, which later amalgamated with the other departmental constabularies to form the MoD Police. Most of his career was spent in Northern Ireland serving at Crosgar, Eglinton, Kilnappy and Aldergrove then latterly he transferred to Wales. Although shooting and fishing dominated much of Bill's free time he also had an interest in military history and was a great collector of edged weapons.

Bill was laid to rest in the Cemetery at Llanwnda near Fishguard beside his wife Mary and son Clive. He leaves behind three sons.
