Annual General Meeting 2005

image from AGM This years AGM and Reunion was held in the Cardiff Moat House Hotel on Saturday 14 October 2005 at which 112 members and guests attended. The Guest Speaker at the Reunion Dinner was Mr Steve Love, Chief Constable and President of the ROA.

The AGM dealt with matters concerning Regional Centres, distribution of Talk Through and the ROA Newsletter, notification of deaths of Retired Members and representatives attending their funerals, acceptance of the audited accounts and the election of Office Bearers and Committee Members.

Reports from the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer on the work of the Association during the past year were given and recorded. All Officers and Committee Members were willing to serve for a further year and duly elected. No other nominations were received.

The Moat House Hotel was an ideal venue for this year's event and staff catered and looked after those attending very well. However, the Hotel proved to be somewhat difficult to locate despite there being a small map of its location issued to all who were travelling to Cardiff by road.. The interpretation of the map was, to say the least, 'slightly' confusing but whoever heard of roundabouts on a motorway. This confusion led to some ribbing and as a result a 'regular' attendee at the Reunion weekends produced the following ditty: -

MOAT HOUSE MYSTERY TOUR
Or
(Where, Oh! Where has my Hotel Gone?)

They seek it here; they seek it there,
They see the Moat House everywhere.
Is it in Heaven? Is it in Hell?
That damned elusive Welsh Hotel,

Our Secretary, Cliff, a helpful chap,
Sent us all a little map,
But this caused so many doubts,
Because it showed some roundabouts.

From North and South our brave marauders,
Came to break across Welsh borders,
When close to Cardiff, most of them
Came along the A48(M).

Heads are turning left and right,
There's not a roundabout in sight,
Wrong turnings taken, some dismay,
Some end up at Cardiff Bay.

They drive along, there's so much hassle,
More than once they pass the Castle,
They did a grand tour of the City,
But still no Moat House, what a pity.

Then day dims into night,
At last the hotel hoves into sight,
With scrambled brains and tired eyes,
There's much relief, expressed deep sighs.

So if your journey blew your mind
The Moat House you found hard to find
Here's a thought for you dear folks,
What lies ahead at Sevenoaks?

Items from the AGM

As a result of discussions the following items were drawn to particular notice of the Members. The project of organising a caravan and motor home rally had to be discontinued due to lack of support. Our thanks go to those members who did express an interest.

Because Members are scattered throughout the country it is quite difficult to keep abreast of their welfare and it often occurs that one our Members passes away and we are unaware this has happened because no one has informed the Association. Could we please ask that should anyone hear of the death of a Retired Member of the MDP then let the Committee know. Efforts would then be made to have a representative of the Association attend the funeral.
