Annual General Meeting and Reunion 2009

The AGM and Reunion was held at the Ramada Hotel, Chester over the weekend 9th-12th October with 80 members and guests that included President Steve Love, CCMDP, MA, FsyI; Patron Jack Aspinall QPM and Paul O'Neill, DPF General Secretary. A warm welcome was also extended to Force Liaison Officer, Ch Supt Andy Kirkwood and Insp Angela Harney who in particular oversees the routine contact with ROA. Special thanks were recorded to the Force for the assistance afforded to ROA during the year and to DPF for providing meeting facilities.

The AGM was well attended and members received reports on the work of the association undertaken throughout the course of the year as well as being given a full account of ROA's financial position as at 31st March 2009.

Consideration was also given to amending rule 3 of the ROA Constitution the aim being to allow the AGM to agree, subject to a two-thirds majority in favour, increasing the £2 annual contribution; also changing the basis on which the annual contribution becomes payable. Currently it is levied on a per person basis whereas in future it would become payable per family household.

It was further proposed that the annual contribution of £2 per annum be increased to £5 per annum per family household with effect from 1st July 2010.

Following discussion the amendments were approved and the Rules have been subsequently updated to reflect the changes. The Treasurer will be contacting individual members in due course as regards changes required to standing order payments from July 2010.

Peter Parkes was elected to the post of Vice Chairman. Other changes to the Committee included Dave Rogers being elected as a new member.

Following the AGM Ch Supt Andy Kirkwood gave a comprehensive presentation on force activities including an overview of the many issues currently impacting on the MDP.

Paul O'Neill outlined in some detail current problems facing DPF particularly over lack of consultation on key matters affecting the future of the Force. Paul also summarised many of the federation membership benefits some of which were currently available to ROA members. He anticipated that other services would be extended to ROA members in due course.

At the Reunion Dinner ROA President Steve Love gave an after dinner speech highlighting key events that had occurred in the force during the previous 12 months. Clearly the Force is going through a difficult period at the moment as a consequence of MoD budgetary pressures and yet again more reviews.

All who attended enjoyed the weekend event and as ever it was good to welcome several new members joining us for the first time.

Next years AGM/Reunion will be held from Friday 8th to Monday 11th October 2010, however the venue had yet to be determined. The Booking Form together with information on the venue and cost will be circulated in due course.
