Disability Discrimination Act
Home Office Ministers have agreed in principle that the Disability Discrimination Act should be extended to police officers when a suitable legislative opportunity arises.
Among the key issues involved in preparing the police service for the DDA is ensuring that job related medical and fitness standards for recruitment are in place. This work is now being taken forward in consultation with the advisory group on National Recruitment Standards.
It is not clear at this stage how long the police service might have to prepare for the DDA to be extended to police officers, but the Home Office envisage that it might take between three to six years to implement.
