CHANGE OF TITLE DPF SUPPORT OFFICER
In keeping with modernisation and the variable role that the DPF Area Welfare Officer now has to undertake it is considered and agreed by all DPF Welfare officers that a change to our title be made.
The change has been brought about due to the inclusion of DRB’s,CSAB’s and the continual personal support to our members. Also more enquiries of a general nature and on certain types of legislation are being made to us. This has meant a broadening of our skills base. To reflect this development we felt that a change to our title was necessary. Our role within the Welfare area has not changed but the support to the membership has been enhanced. The title change will be effective as from 1st April 2005.
There has been in the past some confusion over the term “Welfare” as with one case at a DRB. This led to a problem as to the individual’s role. Force Management have long taken the view that the DPF when using this term may cause further confusion to Officers next of kin/partner, when there has been involvement by the Civil Service Welfare organisation. But it must be pointed out that the DPF as a representative body has the right to title their representatives as they so wish.
We have also taken on an additional Support Officer for Menwith Hill & Fylingdales area. Julianne Forkasiewicz, who is based at Menwith Hill, will cover this area due to the number of Officers located there.
An updated list, of DPF Support Officers, station responsibilities and points of contact will be issued to all branches in April 05.
