Access to Civil Service Personnel Records
The Data Protection Act 1998 became effective on 1 March 2000 providing access to personal data. The Cabinet Office has issued guidance on the application of the Act in terms of Civil Service personnel records. The legislation provides for individuals right to: see information held on the, starting with data processed on or after 24 October 98; be told whether, and for what purpose, personal information relating to them is being processed; the nature of the data; people to whom the information may be disclosed; and ask for inaccuracies to be corrected or removed.
DPF is to seek clarification from HQMDP about the implications of the Act upon members of the Force.
