DPF Briefing
June 2002
Pay and Conditions
A new pay deal has been agreed by PNB. The settlement was reached following conciliation talks between both sides after the massive rejection of the original package by HDP officers across the country. A revised set of proposals emerged and were endorsed by the Police Federation. In his address to the Police Federation Annual Conference Chairman, Fred Broughton, voiced strong criticism of the Home Secretary and the manner in which the pay talks had been conducted. In response David Blunkett, the Home Secretary, acknowledged that mistakes had been made and lessons had been learned.
The PNB agreement is still subject to sufficient new money being made available
to cover the net cost of the package. The first stage is due to take effect from 1 April 2003. The annual pay round effective from 1 September is in addition to the new arrangements.
DPF is holding talks with the Official Side about the implications of the PNB agreement for MDP.
