DPF Briefing
July 2005
Life Insurance - Terrorist Activity
Members are strongly advised to check that personal insurance policies
provide adequate cover for the role of Ministry of Defence Police Officers.
Questions have been raised on this subject following recent terrorist
activity and the front line response of our members in dealing with the
raised policing and security needs of MOD, not only in the Capital but
also nationwide.
MOD Personnel Manual 16, Chapter 10, paragraph 10.7 deals with this
issue and gives guidance in respect of personal life insurance for MOD
Civil Servants who may become engaged in dangerous assignments.
Members of the Force when taking out new policies or recruits with
existing policies, must declare their role as a member of the Ministry of
Defence Police. They should also inform their insurance company of any
raised danger associated with the role.
DPF have asked the Official Side for clarity on this subject to be
published as a matter of urgency. Until then please refer to the above
detailed Manual.
