Defamation Case - Keating v Large
From August 2006 until January 2007, two defamatory pieces were published by Mr Roy Large on his website "ModPol" in which the National Chairman of the Defence Police Federation, Mr Eamon Keating, was accused of improper behaviour in relation to the provision of legal advice and representation given by the DPF. Mr Keating always strongly denied Mr Large's assertions.
Mr Large's defence was struck out in January 2008 and on Tuesday 12th August 2008 at the High Court in London, Richard Parkes, QC, sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge, accepted Mr Keating's evidence that the allegations made by Mr Large were false and gave the following judgement:-
- Mr Large was ordered to pay Mr Keating £45,000 damages within the next 28 days.
- An injunction will be issued against Mr Large, banning him from repeating the allegations complained about.
- Mr Large was ordered to pay Mr Keating's costs, with a payment of £35,000 on account within the next 28 days.
Mr Keating will pay the DPF the costs he recovers from Mr Large, as the DPF funded this action.
