PAY AWARD 2007 - UPDATE
Following the meeting held in London on 12th December 2007 by the Joint Central Committee of the Police Federation of England & Wales I can offer the following update.
As you know Police Officers serving in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been awarded a pay rise of 2.5% wef 01/12/07 whilst those in Scotland have been awarded 2.5% wef 01/09/07. In real terms the disparity offers a pay award of 1.9% to those in receipt of it from 1st December.
The above awards are effective only for Home Department Police Forces; non-HDPF's including MDP must resolve their own pay claims albeit whilst following the HDPF model.
Given that the MDP is a national Force and that it's officers should receive the same pay award wherever they serve within the UK; DPF has submitted a pay claim on members' behalf to follow the Scottish model on behalf of all officers. The rationale behind this is that the Scottish government adhered to the findings of the recent Police Appeals Tribunal, which recommended 2.5% effective from 1st September 2007. In other words the agreement was honored in Scotland unlike the shameful stance adopted by the Home Secretary towards our colleagues elsewhere in the UK.
At the present time, no Home Office circular has been received yet on the Pay Award. As such the MoD have only been made aware of the current situation by way of anecdotal evidence. When a formal response has been received in relation to the pay award for MDP officers we will notify the membership.
In the interim members are advised that updates will continue to be published on the PFEW website which can be linked to from our own website. At this time we cannot speculate on the MoD response hence we will not report the current PFEW actions in detail except where there is a direct link to MDP. We continue to support, in principle, the Police Federations of England, Wales and Northern Ireland in relation to the disgraceful way in which they have been treated.
Currently we have neither been refused nor offered any pay award therefore the issues raised in relation to lobbying of MP's and the potential for industrial action remain outwith our remit and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
