The Northern Police Convalescent and Treatment Centre
The Northern Police Convalescent and Treatment Centre is a registered charity providing two facilities (St Andrews in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and Castlebrae in Auchterarder, Perthshire) where serving and retired police officers can receive intensive physiotherapy, recuperation and treatments following an illness or injury, to aid their return to better health. As well as modern physiotherapy units, the centres have a swimming pool, gym and extensive fitness and leisure facilities.
Members are encouraged to donate £4.60 each month and those who do can seek intensive treatment at one of the centres if they suffer an injury on or off duty, or find themselves having to cope with an illness, depression or stress. Currently more than 55,000 officers from 25 police forces donate to the charity.
Gemma Pettman, Publicity and Fundraising Officer for the Northern Police Convalescent and Treatment Centres (NPC&TC) said: “The charity seeks to provide the best possible medical and recuperative treatment which is timely and helps officers return to better health. This is a great benefit not only to the officers and their families but also to the police forces in which they serve.”
The cost of running the two centres is approximately £3.5 million each year and last year more than 3000 officers received treatment. A payroll giving scheme is now in place which means DPF members can make a donation to the charity direct from their pay.
